| Yahzarah |
A wise
person once said, “big things come in small packages.” The
person that uttered these words of wisdom had to have been talking
about Washington, D.C. native Yahzarah, the latest addition to the
Three Keys Music family. Her energetic and funky shows have been
compared to that of soulful diva Tina Turner.
Ask anyone and the reaction you’ll get is the amazement over how
a woman so petite can possess such an enormous voice. Her voice
first became known to the music world when she gigged as a
background singer for mega platinum recording artist Erykah Badu.
This five-year gig has taken her around the world and given her on
the job training, training which will prove to be invaluable as
she is now poised to take the lead.
With her upcoming freshman release titled Hear Me, YahZarah
emerges from the background and steps center stage into the
spotlight with a sound that's distinctly her own. Hear Me is a
soul inspired masterpiece that goes against the typical R&B
sound and serves up a potpourri of gospel, jazz, soul and funk in
a live instrument package.
Yahzarah represents a new era of soul – soul indicative of its
early roots, which emerged in the 70’s. Her musical influences
include, but are not limited to Sly and the Family Stone, Chaka
Kahn and Aretha Franklin. Each of these artists left a lasting
impression on the hearts and minds of their listeners while
forging new ground with their keen sense of style accompanied by a
slamming stage show. Those who have had the pleasure of witnessing
this powerful artist performing live have walked away with goose
bumps.
YahZarah’s journey can be summed up in one word, evolution. In a
span of five years this former student from the renowned Duke
Ellington School of Music has made an incredible transformation.
She has gone from a music student at North Carolina Central
University to background singer for one of the founders of the
neo-soul movement, to a soul artist in her own right.
"I want people to see me, feel me, hear me...I want them to
hear my sincerity.”
