Terry McGill
Major record label executive Terry McGill (Motown, RCA, Scotti Brothers Records, Breakaway Entertainment, Fully Loaded Records), left the bright lights of Los Angeles and returned to his hometown of Dallas, Texas in November of 1999 to establish the music and entertainment company MAJOR MONEY ENTERTAINMENT. His mission was to develop a full-service company that scouts, markets and promotes unsigned talent (singers, rappers, models, actors). The business savvy McGill wanted to establish the company in Dallas for two reasons.

The first is that the southern market is hot right now. With top selling acts like Ludacris, OutKast, Usher and Jagged Edge the south is now on the cutting-edge of hip-hop and R&B. Companies such as Cash Money and No Limit in New Orleans, So So Def and Def Jam South in Atlanta, Rap-A-Lot and Wreck Shop Records in Houston are setting the pace. “The south has become the ‘Breakout’ market and with my roots being in the south I’ve basically had this market locked down. But, to really commit to this market, I had to leave LA and be where the flava emanates, and close to my acts” he says. By being in Dallas he feels that he can be involved in all aspects of his artist’s development.

The second reason is purely economic. Having a business in Middle America is a lot less expensive which means that you can make a dollar stretch much further. “Overhead and day to day costs have dropped dramatically and now I can concentrate the marketing dollars on development, recording, production, distribution, promotion, etc. also I feel it is important to Major Money Entertainment’s success that I be in the heart of the market and centrally located”, he admits.

Being a true visionary he has joined forces with Mic Moodswing, Tightwork Records, Chicago Bears tight-end Desmond Clark and The Source Magazine for the 2nd Annual Texas Summer Music Conference. The goal in the next two years is to develop the Texas Summer Music Conference into a nationally known annual event that exposes and open doors for our artist, models and actors (similar to Essence Fest, Kappa Beach Party Weekend, The old "Jack The Rapper" and Impact Convention).

The Texas Summer Music Conference will provide a safe, affordable opportunity to learn, network, and make valuable industry connections with nationally known recording artists, key music industry executives and decision makers in a centrally located major city that’s easily accessible to independent labels and developing artist with limited resources. There will be various exhibits, displays, poolside entertainment, concerts, independent artist showcases, food, music and a fashion show featuring the latest hip-hop gear from major fashion lines. “The conference will be unlike any event that has ever taken place in the Dallas area” says McGill.

Between March-June 2004 look out for the “Unsigned Hype Tour” sponsored by The Source Magazine and the TSMC. The tour, in conjunction with the top 25 radio markets in the south (R&B/Hip-Hop) will feature major artist performances along with an unsigned artist competition in each market. The winners of the local unsigned artist competitions will be invited to Dallas to compete during the conference for the "National Unsigned Hype Award".

The Texas Summer Music Conference will also announce and award this year’s recipients of the “Down from Day One Award”. This award recognizes 5 artist and/or record label pioneers that played a key role in the record-breaking development of hip-hop in the south.

The 1st Annual Texas Summer Music Conference put itself on the map with over 1,500 people in attendance. This year’s conference is expected to eclipse that with an anticipated attendance of over 5,000 hip-hop and R&B heads. With numbers like these you will not want to miss The 2nd Annual Texas Summer Music Conference!

This growth is all a part of the big picture ”Within the next five to six years Major Money Entertainment will be one of the most respected full service entertainment companies in the country”, says McGill. Focus, respect, planning and implementation are all reason why Terry McGill and Major Money Entertainment will be a force in the south and far beyond.
