Harvey
(south suburban Chicago) native Maurice Joshua has reached the
pinnacle of musical success taking home the coveted 2004
Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.
The 4
time Grammy Nominated producer-remixer ended
2003 on a strong note with a
string of hit club remixes for pop and R&B music's elite
Blu Cantrell, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Anastacia.
December 15, 2003 saw the release of the latest single to be
taken from Beyonce's Global smash solo album Dangerously In
Love. The multiplatinum release features the smash hit
single Crazy In Love which contained re-mixes courtesy
of Maurice Joshua. It was these remixes that landed him his
4th nomination and made it
evident hat 2004 would be his
year to take home the hardware.
Maurice began his music career while
still a young buck running the hallowed halls of Thornton
Township HS where he excelled as a member of the Wildcat
Marching Band playing several instruments. It was his love for
music that prompted him to learn the art of mixing records
from hot Chicago DJ and older brother Xavier. "When I
told Xavier that I wanted to learn how to DJ he told me that
he would teach me if I was serious. So, every day after school
we would practice mixing for at
least an hour" he states.
After perfecting his craft Maurice began to mix at local house
parties and eventually moving on to local clubs and airwaves.
His skills earned him immense popularity and guest appearances
with the Hot Mix 5 on WBMX which at the time was the hottest
radio station in Chicago.
Maurice's big break came after his first hit single with
the house track I Got A Big D_ _ k. He then followed up
with the platinum single This Is Acid which was
produced by Hot Hands Hula of Clubhouse Records. The single
released on Vendetta A&M Records gave him his first
opportunity to see the world. After taking these huge steps
towards success there was no looking back.
For the last 10 years he has been
producing remixes for the likes Destiny's Child, En Vogue,
Faith Evans feat. Puff Daddy, Backstreet Boys, Beenie Man,
George Michael, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Price, Kim English, Mandy
Moore, Mel B., Michael Jackson, 'N Sync , Tamia, Vitamin C and
many more.
Maurice is working harder than ever
and feels that his Grammy win is only a new beginning in what
he feel is an already rewarding career. He also now knows that
winning the Grammy doesn't mean instant fame and huge dollars.
"Nothing has really changed, I mean I still have to come
into the office every day and work the phones trying to get
club gigs or my next studio session" he confides.
His style of R&B dance and pop
can be heard in clubs and radio stations worldwide. His mixes
are a favorite among radio programmers who add his remix
versions to their regular rotation religiously. It's been
quite a ride and all of this with him just back from a year
lay-off to raise his children. He's been in the studio
non-stop putting the finishing touches on a new album project.
The first single La La remixed by E-Smoove, Jackie
Christie & Shane X, and Joe Smooth was released first on
Planet - Edel Records in Jan.
