DA BLOCK PARTY

New Orleans based producers & New Orleans native Distributor Team Up to Release Home Grown Film "Da Block Party”

 

“Da Block Party” will be the first film for the New Orleans brothers Kane & Abel to be distributed by New Orleans Native Doug Schwab, President of Maverick Entertainment Group Inc.

 

Fort Lauderdale, FL - Maverick Entertainment Groups Inc. (MEG) announces it has added a new film to their Platinum line from the New Orleans filmmakers, Kane & Abel.  Da Block P art y will be the first film to be distributed for the pair under Maverick’s Platinum label, and will be released on November 11th, 2004.

 

“Da Block P art y” is a comedic fun-filled, hip hopping ride on "Da" wildest block in "Da" dirty south.  One hot summer day in New Orleans , BJ (Troy Anders) tries to keep his deceased brother’s legacy alive by throwing the hottest, rip-roaring block p art y of the summer.  But, he has a few obstacles to overcome.  The hilarious comedy offers special appearances from today's hottest hip hop stars including Juvenile, Miss Dupree, Big Moe, and even fighter Roy Jones Jr. Plus hot music from Dirty South art ists Mannie Fresh of the Cash Money Bigtymerz, Three Six Mafia, Yin Yang Twins, Kane and Abel featuring David Banner, Juvenile, Lil Wayne, B.G., Big Moe, Big Hawk, 5th Ward Weebie, and more!

 

Kane and Abel, identical twins Dan and Dave Garcia, were born in the Bronx, NY; but relocated to New Orleans at the age of fifteen after being raised in foster homes.  After attending Sarah T. Reed High School and Xavier University , they signed a recording contract with Master P's No Limit Records. After selling over 1 million albums as a hip hop duo, they ventured into the publishing world. Their first novel, ' Eyes of a Killer ( St. M art in 's) received critical acclaim. Their second novel, ' Diva" was published in 2004 by Triple Crown Publications. They are also the co- CEO's of the independent rap powerhouse, Most Wanted Records.

 

President and Founder of MEG Doug Schwab, born and raised in New Orleans , attended M art in High School and st art ed in the video business as a clerk at the age of 15.  Schwab could immediately sense a connection with Dan and Dave, who ventured into the film business with their latest venture, Most Wanted Films. In p art nership between fellow New Orleanians they are set to release 5 films in late 2004, and early 2005 (all of the films were shot on location in New Orleans ). 

 

“I have always been very proud of being a native New Orleanian. As successful distributor & Filmaker I have long wanted to find a way to bring attention to the cities vast array of talent, by either acquiring films about the city for our distributed label or by focusing our filmmaking ability in the city as well,” says Doug Schwab. “This partnership with Kane & Abel allows both dreams to come to fruition and make New Orleans a focal point for this joint effort.”

Breakaway Films

 

Formed in the fall of 2002, Doug Schwab has established a separate production company Breakaway Films with industry veterans Ron Castell and Pamela White. The South Florida-based production company has already earned the distinction of becoming one of the busiest independents in the industry, producing 14 films less than 16 months.
